You can also split large files of any type (including documents, pictures, movie files, music files etc) into a set of smaller pieces for easier distribution (e.g. via email, internet or multiple CD/DVD disks).
The pieces can then be joined back together to make the original file. If you're sending the pieces to someone else, they will need MacAppStuff's Pieces to join them, so send them the application or tell them where to download it!
